The NCC Unit of the SKR&SKR Govt. Degree College for Women(A), Kadapa is functioning with 70 cadets during the 1993-1994 by 5(A) Girls Bn. Tirupati.

Aims of the NCC Aims of NCC:

History:

National Cadet corps (NCC) has its genesis in the University Corps’, which was created under the Indian Defense Act 1917 with the object to make up the shortage of the Army. In 1920, when the Indian Territorial Act was passed, the University Corps’ was replaced by University Training Corps’ ( UTC). In 1942, the UTC was renamed as University Officers Training Corps’ (UOTC). The need to create a youth organization at National Level to train the young boys & girls to be better citizen and further leaders of our great country in all walks of life, including defense forces, was rightly realized by our leaders. A committee under Pandit H.N. Kunzru was set up in 1946 at the behest of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The NCC came into existence on 16th July 1948 under the Act XXXVI of 1948 under the Ministry of Defense (MOD). It was constituted in Andhra Pradesh in May 1949.

Organizational set up

The SKR & SKR Govt. Degree College for Women(A), Kadapa has given prime importance to national integration. Realizing the role of youth, in the defence of our Country, the College at its very birth has taken steps in starting an NCC Army Unit. Thus on  1993, the inauguration of the Girl’s unit took place.

The present strength of the Unit is one CTO and 150 Cadets. Under open scheme of enrollment the NCC Sub Unit provides training to Senior students of institution.

The Unit is under the direct control of Smt.Dr. P. Subbalakshumma garu the Principal of the college. All correspondence is through the Principal. She plays a vital role in motivating the cadets and the Associate NCC Officer (CTO). CTO is the officer who keeps the link between the cadets and 5(A) Girls  battalion Tirupati. Presently Smt. B. Yuga Vani of the Department of Botany is the CTO. At the Unit level there are L. Mounika, SUO and JUO Mehafooz  to assist the CTO.
